PINOY BIG BROTHER TEEN EDITION PLUS: The Big Night – QUESTIONABLE? Jun 11, '08 10:37 AM
for everyone

I’m used watching foreign channel shows particularly reality shows such as American Idol, America’s Next Top Model, For Love or Money, Laguna Beach and Parental Control.

But with the local reality shows we have here in Philippines, I’m hooked with the latest craze – Pinoy Big Brother. Yeah, it may sounds cheap among others but you know, I enjoy watching it because I love knowing ordinary people’s lives until I’ll just realize that I’m already learning a lot from them and will be influenced on how the way those so-called “housemates” struggle for their survival inside the Big Brother House.

June 7, 2008 at exactly 7: 45 in the evening, the whole Philippines got excited to witness another history in the local scene. The Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus: The Big Night happened with a blast. The avid people inside the Araneta Coliseum had their own bets. Everyone cheered for the Big Four – Robi, Nicole, Ejay, and Beauty. Robi and Ejay fought for the place as The Big Winner. It was a tight battle on both parts. The True Blue Atenean and The Promdi Hottie, respectively, have high hopes on winning. But the results were announced. Ejay was The Teen Big Winner.

After hearing the results, the only thing that came up on my mind was – the results are doubtful. Yeah, it really is. I knew it to myself that the whole Philippines was really disappointed with Ejay winning over Robi. And there are lots of reasons to prove the result as null and void.

Let’s say, Robi and Ejay are of different worlds. Robi came from a good family. With the Atenean bearing and his doctor father as his role model, he was defined as “the dark horse” in the group. While Ejay coming from what they are saying “poor family”, grew up with separated parents and his stepfather took care of him. To help his family financially, he went into modeling. But whatever and whoever they are in the outside world, they are all EQUAL in Big Brother’s eyes inside the house.

Pinoy Big Brother, as what they are trying to say, is a show that deals with different REAL people in different real situations. Every week, they are given assigned tasks to test each’s patience, creativeness, and determination.

Going back to this PBB Teen Edition Plus, it was very obvious that all of the housemates are too lazy except for Robi. Yes, there are lots of cameras inside the house and it was easy to tell who and WHO IS NOT seriously doing the tasks. They just rely on others’ strengths.

When it comes to effort and performance, Robi tops them all. He’s always remembered as a responsible guy since he never fails on finishing the assigned tasks. Who’s the ONLY housemate who wakes up early to cook for their food? It’s Robi. Who’s the ONLY housemate who never flirted with any of the girl housemates? It’s Robi. Who’s the ONLY housemate who has the good leadership? It’s Robi – AGAIN! If we’ll talk about the efforts, performance, and sacrifices made, it’s ALWAYS Robi who is admired. And how about Ejay? I guess he’s BEST remembered about his stupid style of courting Valerie. Just that. Nothing more, nothing less.

Another issue is this..

PINOY Big Brother is the name of the show. So therefore, a REAL PINOY should win in this show. And among the four, ROBI is the only pure Filipino since Beauty is Half-Fil, Half-Spanish; Nicole is Half-Fil, Half-Chinese; and Ejay is Half-Fil, Half-Alien! Kidding. He’s Half-Fil, Half-American. So why Ejay won? Again, it’s PINOY Big Brother – it’s not HALF-PINOY Big Brother.

One thing also, Pinoy Big Brother is neither a beauty pageant nor a talent show so you know, it really doesn’t matter how you look like or what talent you have. As long as you did a BIG influence and touched other people’s lives, then you’ll win for sure. And I’ll ask, did Ejay ever influence others? I mean, the only thing he’s doing inside the house was to cry without any further reason, courting Valerie, and he was just displaying his ever “hot” body. So who cares? For almost 3 months staying inside the house, there was even no improvement seen on him compared a lot to Robi who was always consistent on his performance since he entered day one.

And this question is always on my mind – since when did the poverty of a person became a basis to win? Ejay was always nominating Robi because of the vague reason that Robi is already financially stable. So basically, he was trying to say that he deserves more than Robi does. Okay, let’s say, Ejay deserves the PRIZES (cash, condo unit, etc.) but he doesn’t deserve the TITLE since he failed on demonstrating competence. You know, this is what he does to get everyone’s sympathy. And besides, Pinoy Big Brother is not a search for the poorest person in Philippines. Such a pathetic.

So let’s go back to the results. Ejay won, Robi lost – as the Big Winner. I’m just disarrayed. Since Pinoy Big Brother started, the ONLY thing that matters for you to win is the votes. So it simply means that if you got the bigger fans, you got the bigger chance to win, too. With the case of Robi and Ejay, Robi is undoubtedly to have more fans. OMG. Just imagine, Robi was labeled as the “Crush ng Bayan”. He got many Fan sites and he is even popular in Friendster. Not to mention, he is supported by many Ateneo schools all over the Philippines.

I have really this strong doubt on Ejay’s victory. Just imagine, Robi was nominated four times yet, he was never evicted because of a strong support from his fans. And with just a snap, Robi was baffled by Ejay to think that it was just in The Big Night. You get what I mean? There is a BIG possibility that the text results of Robi and Ejay were somewhat intentionally exchanged. I mean, we don’t know, Ejay was favored by ABS-CBN to win since he needs more the prizes.

This is what I always hate – the poor is more likely to win. It’s fine if he really deserves it but he really doesn’t. Maybe you’re saying I’m a big fan of Robi. All I can say is..

I’m not a fan of Robi but I’m not a fan of injustice.
